This Canadian team has raced solar cars since 1992, and they’re bringing their best yet to the 2026 Electrek American Solar Challenge

1 day 4 hours ago

This July, the 2026 Electrek Formula Sun Grand Prix (FSGP) and American Solar Challenge (ASC) head north to Minnesota. Meanwhile, I caught up with one of the teams making the trip, and they’ve been racing solar cars longer than almost anyone. Éclipse, out of École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) in Montreal, has been building them for over 33 years, since 1992. Hence the big 92 you’ll spot on the car.

The team’s captain, Yohann Gourmelen, sat down with me to talk about their new car (Éclipse 12), some rule changes shaking up this year’s race, and how they build nearly an entire solar car in-house.

Tesla has quietly settled the lawsuit brought by the family of a pedestrian killed by a Model Y running “Full Self-Driving,” according to Bloomberg. The terms were not disclosed.

It’s the first known pedestrian death tied to FSD — and the same crash that triggered the federal investigation now hanging over 3.2 million Tesla vehicles.

Tesla Semi slides on ice and impressively regains control

1 day 8 hours ago

Tesla’s Semi program lead Dan Priestley shared a video of the electric truck holding its line on icy winter surfaces, sliding under control rather than skidding out of it.

The clip is a rare look at the Tesla Semi’s Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) system doing exactly what an electric drivetrain is supposed to do better than a diesel one: catch a heavy rig before it gets away from the driver.
